About This Project

Medical Mission Eswatini (MME) collaborates with partners to deliver strategically needed, high quality and sustainable healthcare improvements. MME fosters long-term commitments with the communities we serve and is focused on educating the next generation of healthcare professionals. MME is driven by the unmet healthcare needs of neglected communities in Southern Africa and intends to become a leader in the implementation of best international practices through research and published work, creating models that can be replicated to increase access to more people needing specialist medical treatment in the future.

MME is currently launching facilities and services to enable quality, equitable care to all patients regardless of their location in relation to clinics or ability to pay fees. MME's planned development will meet the need for additional access to procedure and training facilities for specialized health care treatments. Mobilizing resources to support the installation of these facilities is the current challenge faced by the organization. Global shipping delays and increased fuel prices are also current challenges for the shipping of equipment that has been donated by European organizations. Local services currently available for eye care especially are drastically insufficient, in the coming months the need for additional space to serve cataracts and other blind people will be urgently needed to prevent painful delays to care.

MME has conducted a fundraising visit to multiple potential supporters in North America and is actively working to mobilize as many financial supporters to invest in the development of facilities as possible. MMEs model of charitable medical care for all will be sustained through establishing a fee-based service for people who can afford to pay or get reimbursement from medical insurance for treatment, the profits from which will provide cost recovery for the patients are assessed as being unable to pay fees. This internal circular flow of funds for equitable care is well established in other services Dr. Pons has built and is an internationally accepted methodology for sustaining high-quality medical interventions for the poorest. Mercy Air Switzerland will be assisting MME medical teams to reach the most remote, disadvantaged communities. Helicopter, Pilot, and Hangar Services are being sponsored externally however MME will need to mobilize support for consumables to ensure this high-efficiency consultation service reaches all target communities.
